Statement on Gaza by Tom Fletcher, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator The Israeli authorities have temporarily allowed us to resume delivery of limited aid into Gaza, following 11 weeks of complete blockade, and amid a spike in the military offensive. This is a welcome development that should remain in place. Today, nine of our trucks were cleared to enter, via the Kerem Shalom crossing.

The United Nations and its humanitarian partners (national and international non-governmental organizations) have a clear, principled, and operationally sound plan ready to deliver large-scale, in-kind humanitarian aid and life-saving services across the Gaza Strip. We have the personnel, distribution networks, systems, and community relationships in place to act without delay and in a way that ensures aid is delivered directly to civilians in need, and without diversion.
